| University proof-of-concept funds — internal funds that help researchers turn results into licences or spin-outs | TU/e Innovation Fund (pilot) — Guidelines V0.1, 23 Feb 2026 | Shows which innovations a university is actively pushing to market, and at what stage. Funding is tied to TRL (Stage 1: €20k, TRL 2–3; Stage 2: €50k, TRL 3–4), and the review criteria are published with weights. | Matchmaking, TRL, GFS | Check whether other Dutch universities run similar funds, and whether awarded projects are ever published |
TU/e Innovation Fund at a glance
- What: two-year pilot under the TU/e EU Action Plan, funding proof-of-concept and de-risking work on technologies from EU-funded projects (Horizon Europe, ERC, DEP, EDF…).
- Who can apply: TU/e researchers whose innovation was rated in the TU/e Innovation Radar (High Potential or Promising).
- Stages: Exploration (€20k, 3 months, TRL 2–3, rolling); De-risking (€50k, 6 months, TRL 3–4, quarterly cut-offs); Startup (on hold).
- Review weights: commercial value and impact 25%, validated market 20%, competitive advantage 15%, valorisation pathway 15%, project plan 15%, team 10%; IP position assessed but not scored.
- Focus areas: semicon / photonics / quantum, health / biotech, renewable energy / materials / chemistry.
Only TU/e researchers can apply, so this is not an open call for Matchmaking. Its value is as a signal (which EU-project results a university is valorising) and as an example of published evaluation criteria for GFS and of TRL-based funding stages for TRL.
